5 out of 5 stars LOVE the song Jesus and Gravity   April 17, 2008

I love Dolly's song Jesus and Gravity. I'm so glad I saw her perform it on American Idol.
Since a prior reviewer did not seem to understand the song, let me try to explain it as I understand it. When she wrote/sang gravity keeps me down, this means that the problems and trials that we face in life are the very things that bring us to our knees in prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus lifts us up when we feel so down, when we turn to Him in prayer. In the Bible it says that Jesus is the Lifter of our heads. This brings to mind the picture of a parent reaching down to their child and putting their hand under the child's chin and lifting it up with a comforting smile.
I hope this helps some to understand the lyrics a bit more.

5 out of 5 stars Jesus & Gravity   May 26, 2009

Jesus & Gravity is a great song! It reminds me that life is a balancing act! We dont need to be so earthly minded that we're no heavenly good, or so heavenly minded that we're no earthly good! We have something lifting us up (that something is Jesus), something holding us down (cares and responsibilities of this life). It helps me keep things in perspective! I love the honesty of her songs! This album is pure Dolly!!
And how I do love Dolly!

1 out of 5 stars A Painfully Strange & Awkward Song... of Pink Proportions!   April 8, 2008

Alright, so I have not heard the studio version of this song, but do you really need to after watching Dolly's performance of the song on American Idol? First off, while a song about Jesus is great, you are CLEARLY lacking ideas when your idea in the song is, Jesus lifts me up, Gravity keeps me down, that's all I need, Jesus and Gravity. Really folks, that's the idea of the song!

Now, I've heard Christian music long enough to know, it's very hard to write a song about Jesus that hasn't been done so many times, it just doesn't mean a thing anymore. No doubt, Dolly has exhausted a myriad of ideas herself, from hymn, to otherwise. And after 20+ years or whatever or so of doing it, you tend to have writer's block, and you come to the point where you're just willing to take anything. So, this is the result.

Take it or leave it; I leave it. You can't get to the music here, because you can't get pass the lyrics. The lyrics are strange, somewhat lazy, and again, just plain weird. And singing it in front of 20 million people+, that's just awkward.
